- Classes labelled as “Basics” are especially suitable for newcomers to the Art, but are also fundamental for continued study of Aikido. More advanced students are also welcome and encouraged to attend.
- Classes labelled “Intermediates” are open to those who have passed their first grading (Sixth Kyu), proceed at a more demanding pace, and often incorporate more elements of weapons training.
- Classes labelled “Advanced” are open to those holding the rank of Third Kyu or above, or by invitation from the Chief Instructor.
For more detailed descriptions of the classes offered at Ei Mei Kan, in particular body art and weapons practice, please see the Training page.
In support of the local Aikido community, Ei Mei Kan often hosts guest instructors from other dojos and makes reciprocal visits to those dojos. Please see the announcements page for details.
Please make the effort to arrive ahead of time so that you are ready to practice 5–10 minutes before the time that the class is scheduled to begin. If you do not yet own a gi (the white Japanese garment worn during Aikido practice), please wear loose-fitting but relatively hard-wearing comfortable clothes. For reasons of hygiene and safety, please remove all items of jewellery before practice, and keep your finger- and toe-nails neatly trimmed.
Fees
The fees for practice at Ei Mei Kan are due on a monthly basis, with payment due on the first day of each calendar month. The monthly fee is £50 for unlimited practice. A concessionary rate of £40 per month is applicable for the unemployed, students, senior citizens & c. The monthly fee for children’s classes is £15.
The monthly membership fee covers three items: training fees, membership of Ei Mei Kan, and personal membership of the British Birankai (British Aikikai), our parent organisation. British Birankai (British Aikikai) membership includes full British Aikido Board insurance for practice.
